Spring Green

April 18, 2013 Photo of the day: "Spring Green"

"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay."
-Robert Frost

After two weeks of rain,
tender green leaves and blades of grass
are beginning to emerge.

Each day, I peer at our trees and flower beds,
eagerly anticipating bright yellow forsythia,
pure white tulips, and tiny crimson red buds;
 longing for pink and white magnolias blossoms,
violet, blue, and yellow violas,
striped and dappled crocus with saffron centers...

Yet, as Robert Frost reminds us,
those first golden leaves are just as precious.
I should cherish these subtile signs of spring
before their fleeting beauty is lost.
