April in Pictures

Perhaps T.S. Eliot was correct that "April is the cruelest month" since it teased us with glimpses of sunshine and early blossoms and punished us with so many cold and rainy days. But perhaps it's best to remain hopeful that "April showers bring May flowers."

Morning

April 30, 2014 Photo (120/365): "April Morning"

"When you rise in the morning,
give thanks for the light,
for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks,
the fault lies in yourself." ~ Tecumseh

Patience

Facing a week of unseasonably
cold temperatures, high winds, and rain,
it's difficult to imagine that May is only two days away.
Yet a closer look hints at brighter days...

This is how I know that spring is finally here!

Salad

For Easter Sunday, I made this lovely spinach salad
with fresh strawberries and candied pecans.
I created my first Steller photo story with these photos,
and thought you might enjoy the recipe too :)

A warm spring day at the lake:
Hard cool sand between your toes,
water so cold you almost can't stand it,
sunshine so bright you have to shield your eyes.

"Change in all things is sweet." ~ Aristotle

Everyone once and a while,
it's good to look at things from a different perspective,
to reconsider the obvious or comfortable choice.
To that end, it's time for a spring makeover --
a clean layout & subtle palate to showcase my photos.

Wanderlust

April 11, 2014 Photo (101/365): "Wanderlust"

It's officially Spring Break and I have a major case of wanderlust. Last year, I was enjoying long strolls under blossoming trees and the lovely weather that is quintessential "April in Paris." This year it's gray skies, a good chance of rain (possibly snow!), and brisk walks under bare trees -- springtime in Wisconsin. What Spring Break 2014 lacks in atmosphere, I hope to make up for in much-needed rest, a couple of good books, and a bit of pampering. Maybe I don't need a change in latitude to change my attitude...but it wouldn't hurt!

Farewell

April 4, 2014 Photo (094/365): "Farewell Buster"

Farewell, Sweet Buster, my first nephew. You always greeted us with a smile, an enthusiastic howl, and tail that never stopped wagging. You were a good dog, a loyal friend, and a great big brother. Thank you for the joy you brought to your family for nearly twelve years. You have left our lives, but you will never leave our hearts.

Love always, Auntie

Mussels

April 3, 2014 Photo (093/365): "Les moules"

We were disappointed when our favorite restaurant here in Okauchee Lake closed last fall, but we're thrilled that it has since reopened as Le Rendez-vous. The proprietor is Parisian and the chefs are experimenting with a variety of French fare, including crêpes, mussels, soupe à l'oignon, crème brûlée...miam! Delicious, but now I miss France even more.
