What a Fungi :)

There are so many different fungi here in Wisconsin.

Aside from morels, I don't know any of them.
Can anyone educate me?

After my misidentification of the deadly nightshade
(definitely not "wild currants!"), I just assume they're all poisonous!

Yet they are fascinating and quite beautiful!

A mushroom walks into a bar.
Bartender says, "We don't serve mushrooms here."
Mushroom says, "But I'm a 'fungi!'"

Into the Woods

"I went to the woods
because I wished to live deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of life,
and see if I could not learn what it had to teach..."

~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden

There is a season...

"To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven."
(Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Fall was always Dad's favorite season.
Everything about it reminds me of him:
Ripe apples and plums,
Mallards and Canadian geese,
The smell of fallen leaves,
Crisp days and foggy nights,
Hudson Bay coats and Pendleton shirts,
and tonight's Harvest Moon.

He left us on September 18th,
knowing that he would always be with us.

"Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout streams
And above the hills
The high blue windless skies
Now he will be a part of them forever"
~ Ernest Hemingway

Skywriting

"Skywriting"

As we drove to work on this chilly September morning, the sun just clearing the horizon, I was struck by the unusual cloud formation above our heads. All my friends in Southeastern Wisconsin, you saw this too, right? "Fish bones," Eric declared. I agreed until I noticed this feather, clearly illuminated in the brightening sky: A plume with which to write your deepest thoughts, a wish for the day, or even a prayer in invisible ink, written across the heavens!
