Morning Light

August 3, 2016 (216/366)

"An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day." - Henry David Thoreau

Nearly every morning this summer, Piper and I have taken a long stroll through the woods and gardens in our yard. Most days, we immediately notice the need for more digging, weeding, and planting; so we abandon our walk and get right to work. Other days, like this morning, we revel in the dampness of grass, the cool breeze, the fragrance of roses and phlox, and the sunlight dancing on the leaves.

Summer is winding down and soon I'll be back in school. I think it's mornings like this that I'll miss the most.

Play Ball!

August 2, 2016 (215/366) "Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is."

Chase and the Germantown Diamond Club ball players had the awesome opportunity to play a game at Helfaer Field in the shadow of Miller Park this afternoon.

“And batting 8th for the Warhawks, #1 - Chase Larson!"

"... and the home of the brave!"

"1, 2, 3 - Go Hawks!"

Let's do this!

Chase in the dugout

"Now batting for the Warhawks, #1 - Chase Larson! Light it up!"

Rounding second...

Chase scores a run!

Warming up in the bullpen

"Now pitching for the Warhawks, #1 - Chase Larson!"

The wind-up and the pitch...

Strike!

Roses

August 1, 2016 (214/366)

« C'est le temps que tu a perdu pour ta rose qui fait ta rose si importante. » - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

This rose is a knock-out and I really considered planting it in my garden. I also have Sea Foam shrub roses. Instead, I decided to attempt real roses for the first time, specifically a Sugar Moon hybrid tea rose. Of course, it made it easier to accept the challenge when the roses were 50% off. Stay tuned for pictures...I hope! "It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
