Il dolce far niente

September 3, 2018 (246/365) Each year, right before the first day of school, I celebrate the sweetness of doing nothing -- one day to read, sip tea, watch movies, knit, nap, whatever I want. My BFF is happy to share the delicious idleness...and she's really good at it!

Christmas Decorations

December 10, 2017 (344/365) "Christmas waves a magic wand over the world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." - Norman Vincent Peale

This year's new ornament: a French macaron (from the Milwaukee Art Museum)

Bien-sûr!

I think Piper approves!

First Snow of the Season

December 9, 2017 (343/365)

"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?" - J. B. Priestley

Dog Days of Summer

August 21, 2017 (233/365)

Jonathan Swift said, "Every dog must have [her] day," but isn't everyday her day?

Long walks, being outside, reading, and napping -- I love summer with Piper!

Camping in Our Own Backyard

July 16, 2017 (197/365)

“The place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: Home is home...” – Henry David Thoreau

Into the Woods

May 7, 2017 (127/2017)

"There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it." - Washington Irving. This weekend's project: Cleaning out our "woods." The reward: Planting ferns, hepatica, jack-in-the-pulpit, brunnera, and trillium -- plants indigenous to Wisconsin woodlands. These trillium have moved three times!

Home

March 4, 2017 (063/365)

“Home is the nicest word there is.”  - Laura Ingalls Wilder

Thank you, Eric and Piper, for this lovely welcome home! I could do without the snow though ;)
