Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2017 (304/365)

"Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life."

Today's the day to channel your inner princess, pirate, monster, or witch. Put on the costumes and the make up, light the jack-o-lanterns and play festive music (I love Pandora's Halloween Party station!), indulge in treats, and maybe even do a few tricks; for tomorrow,  it's back to reality as Mother Nature turns back into the proverbial pumpkin and the magic of October gives way to the solemnity of November.

One Last Peak

"A beauty lights the fading year..."  - Phebe A. Holder, "A Song of October"

One last peak before today's wind blows the rest of the colors away.

Does Tricks for Treats!

October 29, 2017 (302/365)

Charles Schulz once said, "Snoopy didn't start out as beagle; it's just that beagle is a funny word." Obviously, beagles are my favorite dogs. They are sweet and cute and infuriatingly stubborn, but can you image Snoopy (or Piper) any other way?!

It has been a fun Halloween weekend -- carving Peanuts jack-o-lanterns (without a pattern), roasting pumpkin seeds, enjoying the Delafield festivities, handing out candy and pumpkin doggie treats to trick or treaters, and of course, the annual viewing of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Pumpkins & Beagles

October 28, 2017 (301/265)

"You kept me up all night waiting for the Great Pumpkin and all that came was a beagle!"

- Sally Brown, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

[Tonight at the Delafield Fall Fest, there were plenty of great pumpkins and beagles!]

I think Piper wants to try Trick or Treating too!

And the best costume goes to this little guy!

The Larsons at Fall Fest

This year, our great pumpkins are Snoopy and Woodstock!

French Friday: La Fontaine Stravinsky

le 27 octobre 2017 (300/365)

« Il ne suffisait pas d'entendre la musique, mais qu'il fallait encore la voir. » - Igor Stravinsky

If you're struggling with ideas for this year's Halloween costume or jack-o-lantern, the curious Stravinsky Fountain in Paris may provide just the right inspiration. Located in the Marais between the Gothic Saint-Merri church and the Centre Pompidou, the fountain includes sculptures by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle depicting Igor Stravinsky's Rites of Spring.

Maybe something vibrant and whimsical like L'Oiseau de feu | The Firebird

Or maybe something spooky like La Mort | Death -- very Tim Burton, perfect for Halloween!

Perhaps something musical (La Clef de Sol | Musical Key of G)

Maybe an animal like L'Elephant | The Elephant ...

... or Le Rossignol | The Nightingale

Perhaps a mythical creature like La Sirène | The Mermaid (well, maybe not!)

Regardless of what you choose, have a fun and safe Halloween. Bon week-end!

Frost

“But frost, like the crystallized dreams of autumn, began to coat the clearing with its sugar glaze.”

- Victoria Steele Logue, Redemption
