French Friday: Le Soufflé

le 19 janvier 2018 (019/365)

« La seule chose qui fait tomber un soufflé c'est s'il sait qu'il te fait peur. » - James Beard

Le plat principal: Soufflé au fromage

Les desserts: Grand Marnier (note the bottle that accompanied it!), Rum Raison (rum bottle in background), and classic chocolate

Today would have been my Mom's 80th birthday. I know she would have loved this chocolate soufflé, almost as much as her beloved hot fudge sundaes.

Planning

January 17, 2018 (017/365)

"January is the quietest month in the garden, but just because it looks quiet doesn't mean that nothing is happening." - Rosalie Muller Wright

Snow

January 16, 2018 (016/365)

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'” - Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Blue Monday

January 15, 2018 (015/365) "Feeling a little blue in January is normal." - Marilu Henner

For the past few years, I have heard the third Monday of January referred to as "Blue Monday." Apparently, researches have devised a formula accounting for variables such as weather, post-holiday debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year’s resolutions, low motivation levels, and feeling the need for change and action to determine that today is one of the hardest days of the year.

What would cheer you up on this Blue Monday? A vacation, good book, a walk in the freshly fallen snow? This evening, perhaps a boat drink would help -- this is juniper after all. Now all we need is tonic and lime!

Week 3 - Technical: Full Manual

January 14, 2018  (014/365) • Forcing Spring

“Bulbs need so little and give back so much.” - Lauren Springer Ogden

Week 3 - TECHNICAL: Full Manual #dogwoodweek2, #dogwood52, #dogwood2018 • f/20 1/104 3mm ISO 125 [While the camera often determines shutter speed and aperture for the photographer, it doesn't know your creative intent. This week, challenge your self to assume creative control over the camera by using full manual mode. Select a subject where varying the aperture and / or shutter speed helps enhance the composition and visual qualities of the image.] Not exactly the clarity and color I intended, but I love the light and shadows and this project is all about learning and growing.
