October 2026

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." — Anne Shirley (L.M. Montgomery), Anne of Green Gables

READ:

  • Literary Landscapes Paris by Dominic Bliss — “From Feydeau to Fitzgerald, from Hugo to Hemingway, the Paris locations that have influenced modern literature: A photographic stroll around the bookshops, famous literary restaurants and storied streets of Europe’s favourite tourist destination” (Goodreads). This was my Shakespeare and Company purchase this time. It’s a great book for a lover of Paris, photography, and literature.

WATCHED:

  • The World Series — Watching our Milwaukee Brewers play in World Series has been so much fun and to win it all for the first time was thrillling!

  • A couple perennial Halloween favorites — Practical Magic on the plane to Paris (I love the vibe of the town, the house, and the 90’s fashion) and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown — twice.

  • Lupin (Netflix) — “In Lupin Part 4, Omar Sy reprises his iconic role as Assane Diop, the gentleman thief who has captured the hearts of viewers in France, and around the world. Since it has been four years, we need to rewatch seasons 1-3. We will watch season 4 next month.

ENJOYED:

  • The World Champion Milwaukee Brewers — Bob Uecker’s voice was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Our family went to games at County Stadium, Miller Park, and American Family Field. We cheered for Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, and the rest of the Crew in the 1982 World Series and were heartbroken when the Brewers lost in the seventh game. This World Series has been the culmination of an unforgettable baseball season that brought us all together again. Some, like Rob and Heidi and the boys, attended at a game in Milwaukee; some flew to Florida to be part of the most enthusiastic visiting crowd; some attended watch parties at the ball park or a local watering hole; and others, like me, watched from our living rooms with our dogs on our laps. ALL of us cheered our team to this historic victory. On Friday, Eric, Heidi, Chase, and I went to the parade along with 750,000 fellow Brewers fans. I can’t help by think about how much my mom, who never missed a game on TV or on the radio, would have absolutely loved this championship team and season. Watching the Brewers play this October was a great way to share her love for the game.

  • Paris (October 4-9) — The weather was beautiful and Paris never disappoints.

  • Door County for Halloween — Crispy weather, shuffling through the fallen leaves, and nostalgic Halloween vibes — a long weekend “up home” is good for the soul.
