Freedom

"The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom." - Rudolph W. Giuliani

Turning

« Quand l'idéal se déplace,  il faut bien qu'on s'oriente différemment. Le tournesol reste fidèle au soleil. » - Jean Rostand

"When the ideal shifts, we must orient ourselves differently. Sunflowers turn faithfully toward the sun." Today, the seasons have suddenly changed. Les tournesols (the sunflowers) have bowed their heads in mourning for the hidden sun, bracing themselves against the chill of the wind and rain. Perhaps it's time to face the reality that autumn is already here. Is there no turning back?

Moon

"When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the creator." - Gandhi

Crazy things can happen when the moon is full. I assume this is an error, by in Wisconsin, you never know!

Effect

“You have been created in order that you might make a difference. You have within you the power to change the world.”

- The Butterfly Effect: How Your Life Matters

The butterfly effect is a scientific theory that a single occurrence, no matter how small, can change the course of the universe forever. What a wonderful philosophy for educators! Since my college days at Marquette, I've embraced the challenge to "Be the Difference." We must believe that even the smallest changes that we make in the lives of students every day have the power to transform the future. It is an awesome task that can leave one tired and battered, but what could possibly be more important?

Both

Today we enjoyed both. It was the perfect day for sailing with friends
