French Friday: Bicyclette

13 mars 2015 {71/365} « Bicyclette »

Despite the gorgeous pastries in the windows of Angelina on the rue de Rivoli, this pretty bicyclette with its Tiffany blue paint, gold fenders, and rattan basket beckoned to me. Do you think its owner would mind if I just took it for a little spin around the Right Bank? I'd head to the rue Cambon to faire la lèche-vitrine chez Chanel; stop for a kir in the courtyard of the Hôtel Costes; circle the Place Vendôme to check on the progress of the Ritz renovation; continue to the rue de la Paix and Repetto where I'd shop for some cute, pedal-friendly ballet flats; meander blissfully around the Opéra District and the Palais Royal, taking in the beautiful Paris architecture before a leisurely stroll through the Tuileries gardens. Doesn't that sound lovely?  Now, if I only could find another bike to borrow on the Left Bank ;-)

Puddle

Meet Piper!

March 10, 2015 {69/365} Meet Miss Piper!

Her name reflects our interests and her own unique character:

  • FRENCH: Although I love "Coquette" and "Coco," she is also Eric's puppy and we want her name to be easy for everyone. There is, however, a French reference: Piper-Heidsieck Champagne to toast her bubbly personality!

  • TRAVEL: There are Piper GTsports cars (for Eric) and Piper aircraft to reflect our love of travel, and this puppy is fast!

  • SHOES/FASHION: Piperlime, a subsidiary of Gap and Banana Republic, is a great place to shop for shoes and accessories. Piper is a pretty girl who has already discovered shopping!

  • NAUTICAL: A piper is a member of a ship's crew that pipes out different whistles to order "Hoist Away" or "Avast Hoisting", signaling the crew to raise sails. There were also whistles to announce that visitors were coming aboard or that there was a man overboard. Beagles are notorious for their "piping" (aka howling).

I'm sure we'll be following our little Pied Piper as she discovers the world!

Not Daisy

March 9, 2015 {68/365} "Daisy"

Yesterday, we were leaning towards "Daisy" for our puppy's name. I like the literary reference, but Daisy Buchanan is not a great female role model. After another day with our little girl, we've discovered that she is definitely not a delicate little flower or "a beautiful little fool !" She's so brave and busy!  So, Daisy is off the list. We have all but decided on a name and will share as soon as we are completely certain.
