French Friday: Carcassonne

August 4, 2017 (216/365)

« Mon Dieu que je mourrais content après avoir vu Carcassonne! »

- Gustave Nadaud, Carcassonne (chanson de Georges Brassens

The historic walled city of Carcassonne with its medieval citadel, la Cité, is located in France's Languedoc region. The fortress features numerous watchtowers and ramparts built in Gallo-Roman times. Carcassonne has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, but its roots date back to the neolithic period. Carcassonne's popularity has also inspired a board game and a mobile app where players construct fields, walls, buildings, and roads to build this impressive city.

Fika

August 3, 2017 (215/365)

"Coffee is a language in itself." - Jackie Chan

As a nod to my Scandinavian heritage, I occasionally enjoy a fika. This Swedish coffee break usually includes something sweet -- a simple pastry or a conversation with friends.

Revery

August 2, 2017 (214/365)

“To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee, one clover, and a bee, and revery.” - Emily Dickinson

[This is not clover, but it'll do!]

July in Pictures

"In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible." - Sarah Dessen

Watered Lily

"So extraordinary is Nature with her choicest treasures, spending beauty as she spends sunshine,  pouring it forth into land and sea, garden and desert. And so the beauty of lilies shines on angels and men..." - John Muir
