White Phlox

August 12, 2017 (224/354)

"White is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing -- as fierce as red, as definite as black...God paints in many colours, but He never paints so gorgeously, as when He paints in white."

- Gilbert K. Chesterton

“L'art, c'est la plus sublime mission de l'homme, puisque c'est l'exercice de la pensée qui cherche à comprendre le monde et à le faire comprendre.” - Auguste Rodin

La Jeune fille au chapeau fleuri | The Girl in the Flowered Hat

La Valse | The Waltz (Camille Claudel)

La Cathédrale (Camille Claudel) - my favorite

Le Baiser | The Kiss

La Porte de l'Enfer | The Gates of Hell

Les Trois Ombres | The Three Shades

Les Bourgeois de Calais | The Berghers of Calais

Le Penseur | The Thinker

Most count the Louvre as a must-see when visiting Paris, but it can be overwhelming. I prefer some of Paris' smaller museums. A favorite is Musée Rodin and the sculpture gardens of beautiful Hôtel Biron. Since I, too, was celebrating a milestone in Paris this year, I seemed appropriate to visit during the museum's commemoration the centenary (rodin100.org) of Auguste Rodin (1840-1917).

Nemesis

"A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness..." - Gertrude Jekyll

How strange that such a cute little bunny can threaten both my garden and my beagle.

Unfolding

August 8, 2017 (220/365)

"How does the meadow flower its bloom unfold? Because the lovely little flower is free down to its root, and in that freedom bold." - William Wordsworth

"B hopeful, B happy, B cheerful, B kind, B busy of body, B modest of mind, B earnest, B truthful, B firm and B fair... B watchful, B ready, B open, B frank. B manly to all, whatever B their rank; B just and B generous, B honest, B wise, B temperate, B steadfast. To anger B slow. B thoughtful, B thankful. B pleasant, B patient, B fervent to all. B best if you can, but B humble with all. B prompt and B dutiful, still B polite; B reverent, B quiet, B sure and B right...B grateful, B cautious of those who Btray. B tender, B loving, B good and Bnign, B loved thou shalt B, and all else B thine." - "A Swarm of Bees," The British Bee Journal 1882
