French Friday: Angelina

August 18, 2017 (230/365)

« Une vie sans chocolat est une vie à laquelle manque l'essentiel. » - Marcia Colman et Frederic Morton

Angelina on the rue de Rivoli has been a treat for Parisians and tourists since 1903. The Belle Epoque tearoom was a favorite of Marcel Proust and Coco Chanel, whose atelier is just around the corner on the rue Cambon. Mademoiselle indulged almost daily in Angelia's famous le chocolat chaud à l’ancienne l’Africain.

At home, if I crave a beautiful French pastry, I visit Le Rêve in Wauwatosa.

Yesterday's choices, shared with a friend: Chocolate Raspberry Dome (pistachio cake, raspberry mousse, dark chocolate mousse, raspberry gelée, dark chocolate glaze) and Gâteau de Caramel Salé (flourless chocolate cake, crispy caramel streusel, salted caramel crémeux, milk chocolate mousse)

The End...

August 17, 2017 (229/365)

"No flowers to plant, no garden to tend, as summertime lazily comes to an end. It's time to sit back and deliciously savor the beauty of the season and the fruits of our labor." - Nancy Hughes

With the last of my "Buddy Bucks," I headed to Ebert's in search of a few more flowers for my garden. The greenhouses were almost empty, so I chased dragonflies and took pictures instead.

Observation and Reflection

August 16, 2017 (228/365)

"It's on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. The light constantly changes, and that alters the atmosphere and beauty of things every minute." - Claude Monet

I spy 🐸... Did you notice him in the first picture?

These photos really illustrate the the thrill and the frustration of photography: everything hinges on preparation, light, and timing. My timing was right and the light was beautiful, but I wasn't prepared -- I only had my phone to capture these moments. But, I always say that the best camera is the only you have with you, so these "Impressionistic" pictures are the result.

Do you think my little critic approves?

Frank Lloyd Wright: Buildings for the Prairie

"Tree of Life" Window from the Darwin D. Martin House (Buffalo, New York), ca. 1904 Fabricated by Linden Glass

August 14, 2017 (226/365) "Art is a discovery and development of elementary principles of nature into beautiful forms suitable for human use." - Frank Lloyd Wright

"In celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th birthday, the Milwaukee Art Museum presents Frank Lloyd Wright: Buildings for the Prairie featuring a selection of the famed architect’s designs from the Wasmuth Portfolio and examples of his furniture, stained glass and textiles. Named for its German publisher, the Wasmuth Portfolio is considered the most significant collection of Wright’s early work, showcasing the breadth and beauty of his output. The portfolio lends insight into the master’s early development and affords the opportunity to see the evolution of the Prairie School of architecture." - Museum, Milwaukee Art. “Milwaukee Art Museum | Exhibitions.” Milwaukee Art Museum -- Exhibitions, mam.org/exhibitions/details/Frank.php. Evening on Okauchee Lake

August 13, 2017 (225/365)

"Life is fleeting. And if you're ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day... make a wish and think of me." - Robin Williams

Thank you, Tom and Gabriele, for a lovely evening on Okauchee Lake, watching the meteor showers with good friends and good wine.
