French Friday: La Fontaine Stravinsky

le 27 octobre 2017 (300/365)

« Il ne suffisait pas d'entendre la musique, mais qu'il fallait encore la voir. » - Igor Stravinsky

If you're struggling with ideas for this year's Halloween costume or jack-o-lantern, the curious Stravinsky Fountain in Paris may provide just the right inspiration. Located in the Marais between the Gothic Saint-Merri church and the Centre Pompidou, the fountain includes sculptures by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle depicting Igor Stravinsky's Rites of Spring.

Maybe something vibrant and whimsical like L'Oiseau de feu | The Firebird

Or maybe something spooky like La Mort | Death -- very Tim Burton, perfect for Halloween!

Perhaps something musical (La Clef de Sol | Musical Key of G)

Maybe an animal like L'Elephant | The Elephant ...

... or Le Rossignol | The Nightingale

Perhaps a mythical creature like La Sirène | The Mermaid (well, maybe not!)

Regardless of what you choose, have a fun and safe Halloween. Bon week-end!

“But frost, like the crystallized dreams of autumn, began to coat the clearing with its sugar glaze.”

Moondance

"Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance with the stars up above in your eyes; A fantabulous night to make romance ‘neath the cover of October skies. And all the leaves on the trees are falling to the sound of the breezes that blow…" - Van Morrison

I Got a Rock!

October 24, 2017 (297/365)

"I got a rock!" - Charlie Brown, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Saturday was a great day -- a great day for a road trip; a great day for sunshine, blue skies, and fall colors; a great day for a hike in the park with Piper. And, just in case I needed confirmation, I got a rock! Thanks to friends in both Lake Country and Door County, I now know about these lovely surprises that I have been finding all fall. I found this #MichelleMagpie rock in Potawatomi State Park on Saturday. Michelle's Instagram account explains: "It's not about racing to find the best rocks before anyone else can get there, or about how many rocks you can collect. It's not a game or a contest. It's about random acts of kindness -- sharing a little piece of art with a stranger or exchanging with a friend. It's about people getting together to paint and laugh. It's about making someone's day brighter or sending a little message of encouragement to someone who needs it. It's about positive energy that we send out in the smallest things without expecting anything in return." I took this rock back to Delafield with me and will leave it where someone else can have a great day too! #kindnessrocks

Rocks I've found in Delafield along the Ice Age Trial. To learn more about these painted rocks, visit #WIRocks, Lake Country Rocks, and Door County Rocks.

Road Trip with Piper

October 22, 2017 (295/366)

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." -  Marcel Proust. Daddy and I have explored Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay hundreds of times, but today was Piper's turn!

Piper says, "When you're a good girl, you get ice cream! I like road trips!"
